Coalition backs Redistricting Reform

On October 24, 2006, The NC Coalition for Lobbying & Government Reform held four press conferences across the state in Asheville, Wilmington], Raleigh, and Charlotte to kick off its redistricting reform campaign.

Coalition members and speakers fanned out across the state to unveil the Coalition’s new campaign for changes to the way North Carolina draws its districts. Speakers spoke about the need for an alternative to the current partisan redistricting process in which the majority party draws the districts every 10 years to keep the party in power. The headlining speakers were:

  • Raleigh: Former Congressmen Bill Cobey and Tim Valentine, Carnell Robinson, President of the NC Black Leadership Caucus
  • Charlotte: John Hood, President of the John Locke Foundation and Chris Fitzsimon, Director of NC Policy Watch
  • Wilmington: Former NC Senator Woody White and David Mills, Executive Director of the Common Sense Foundation
  • Asheville: Chad Adams of the John Locke Foundation and Tom Coulson, longtime Board member of Common Cause NC.
  • Former Congressmen Bill Cobey and Tim Valentine lead the press conference in Raleigh and spoke emphatically for a change to our current partisan redistricting process.
